Often referred to as the Commercial Capital of India, Mumbai is the most vibrant and modern city of India. A symbol of liberalization and modernization, Mumbai, previously known as Bombay, was under the control of many Indian empires before being ceded to the Portuguese and then to the British. It is the 4th most populous city of the World and one of the world's top ten centres of commerce. Mumbai is also called the Entertainment capital of India, as it houses India’s Film (Bollywood) and Television industry.
Mumbai is home to many landmarks of the Victorian era like the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (Victoria Terminus), Flora Fountain and the Gothic (Victorian) Buildings of the Fort area, Gateway of India, and the Global Vipassana Pagoda. Other places to visit are Jehangir Art Gallery, Haji Ali Shrine, Prince of Whales Museum, besides the popular Marine Drive, Juhu Beach and Chowpatty.
